Programs
Britton Middle School has adopted California Common Core Standards curricula in all of its subjects. In mathematics, students use the College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) Core Connections series. Science is currently adopting curriculum to focus on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for California. English classes use the Study Sync curriculum with its workbook and online content. Along with Study Sync, Britton students also read, discuss, and write about novels such as The Lightning Thief, The Outsiders, and Enrique's Journey. Social studies classes use the History Alive! standards-based interactive platform. Britton's 6th graders may choose band or the elective wheel for their elective. The elective wheel gives 6th graders the opportunity to sample some of the semester and year long electives from which they can choose for 7th and 8th grade. The 7th and 8th graders may choose band, drama, leadership, art, Spanish, or computer coding as an elective. Finally, all students take a physical education class. The PE classes are standards based and help students meet fitness goals through sport.
Along with traditional coursework, students participate in clubs before and after school. Clubs usually form after the beginning of the school year when school routines have settled in. Past clubs have included math club, art club, drama club, needlecraft club, robotics, Menchu, GSA, and Britton's engineering club. Students should watch for club announcements on Britton TV. Britton also offers a host of after school sport opportunities. Students run track and field and cross country, and they play basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, and wrestling.
Britton Middle School is a dynamic community experiencing a renaissance with the opening of its new campus.
